CARDS Access to Employment: Social inclusion of people with intellectual disabilities.

For more than 10 years API has been supporting people with intellectual disabilities to realise their right to live and work in the community. As the majority of people with intellectual disabilities in Croatia can not gain employment and realise their right to work, the project Access to Employment: Social inclusion of people with intellectual disabilities aims to support people with intellectual disabilities to find and maintain work/vocational activities in the open labour market. The project swill be implemented through a partnership with the Centre for Education Zagorska and the Association for Self Advocacy. Two models of services will be developed (supported employment and supported vocational activities). People with intellectual disabilities seeking work through this project will also receive self determination and self advocacy training. Project partners will advocate for the necessary legislative changes aimed to increase the employment rate of people with disabilities. Expected outcomes: employment of 20 persons with intellectual disabilities, establishment of the first Work Centre offering supported vocational services to 40 people and legislative changes which will enable the establishment of Supported Employment Agencies.
