GROUP HOME FOR CHILDREN

Children do not belong in institutions !!!

Children with multiple and/or severe disabilities are most vulnerable to living in inadequate conditions in institutions.

The goal of this pilot program is to show that ALL children, even those with severe and multiple disabilities can and should live in the community.

This is a pilot program for which API hopes to secure funding and recognition as an official alternative to institutionalization from the Ministry of Work and Social Welfare.

Currently there is one group home for four preschool aged children with multiple and/or or severe disabilities for whom it has not yet been possible to find appropriate foster family care. API's Multidisciplinary Expert Team coordinates 24 hour support which establishes a family environment for the children.

While API's goal is to seek specialized foster families for these children, until the government takes financial responsibility for them, it will be difficult to place them in foster families.
