SPECIALISED FOSTER FAMILY CARE

Specialized foster family care is a form of care for children and sometimes adult persons with intellectual disabilities.

This is an alternative to institutionalization.

Every child has the fundamental right to live in a family (biological, foster or adoptive family). The fact that the child has intellectual disabilities does not give us the right to strip her/him of a family.  Read Petra's Life Story

This program was created by the Association for Promoting Inclusion in cooperation with the local Centers for Social Welfare.
Our professional support team (special educator, psychologist, nurse and social worker) provides support to the child and the specialized foster family.  The members of the team make sure the rights of the child and the foster family are respected and maintained.
API succeeded in finding and training foster families for more than 20 deinstitutionalized children with intellectual disabilities.
The foster families receive financial assistance from the state, which unfortunately does not always cover all the needs of the child.

Therefore we are grateful to all the people and companies who became "Godparents" to our children and who provide the additional funds needed.
