The Association for Promoting Inclusion (API) is a NGO which aims at creating community based alternatives to institutionalization and ensuring the inclusion of persons with intellectual disabilities into society

API was established in 1997 in Zagreb, Croatia, with the financial support and encouragement of the Open Society Institute, through the technical assistance of the Mental Health Initiative.

API's Mission:
API provides support to people with intellectual disabilities in accordance with their needs rather than the needs of the system. The goal is to create inclusive societies where people with intellectual disabilities have equal opportunities, their contribution to society is valued, and their human rights are respected.  MORE

Since 1997 our model program of community based care has been replicated in Bjelovar, Osijek, Sibenik, Kastav, Pula and Slavonski Brod, Croatia, in Bosnia and Herzegovina (Tuzla, Brcko and Gradacac) and in Belgrade. We hope to replicate our program in many locations in the near future.

In 2003 the Association for Promoting Inclusion became a member of INCLUSION EUROPE

API wouldn't be able to provide community based support services without the dedicated support of many volunteers and supporters.   Find out more about how YOU can support our work.  MORE ABOUT VOLUNTEERS
